Marlo Iris Armstrong
7lbs. 15oz.
21 inches long
born at 1:53 AM, 06/14/2009, her official due date
Her middle name was chosen to honor Jon's aunt Iris who passed away last summer, a generous, gentle woman whose life was filled with all sorts of music. Her first name? Well, it just kicks a lot of ass.
Marlo looks remarkably more like a Hamilton than an Armstrong and probably resembles my father more than anyone else. Although, she has an incredibly deep dimple on the left side of her face, something she inherited from two of Jon's sisters.
Leta looked very much like a frog when she was a newborn. Marlo looks like a glowworm.
Labor was an absolute thrill ride that I will write about in detail later this week, but first I need to get some sleep, not easy when this baby takes to picketing and lobbying congress when removed from my boob.
You may call her Marlo, Lo, Lil Donette, or Butternut Boo.
Thanks to everyone for all the well wishes and prayers. It's been a blast having you all along for the ride.

My unsolicited advice for the day, cause I know how much fun that is to have: Leta doesn't really understand that Marlo can't talk. In this house, the baby never cries because she needs a diaper change or a nap or a nursing. She cries because she's sad her sister is leaving for school, or because sister got a boo-boo or -- the humanity!-- because she's devestated that she's too little to use crayons. Her smiles are always because she loves her sisters.
Oh, also, you can put an infant in time-out. It's great for creating unity against you. At some point Leta will come to you with some crime the infant has comitted. That's when you pick the baby up in her bucket and set her down in the other room for her very first ever time out for offending her sister. I've never not seen the older sibling sneak over to the younger one to comfort her in the time-out.
Marlo's end of the conversation is your end of the conversation for the first year or so. You can sow a lot of good will in that time.
I know you'll be an amazing mother of girls, they're both so lucky to have you. Good luck!

On the tiny screen I'm using, I initially read "Mario Iris" and thought to myself, Maybe they are really big Nintendo fans? Did she come out without the proper girl parts? Gives a whole new meaning to Not Maria, doesn't it?
But then I remembered how my screen is so small and I mostly read using zen and context clues when the text is so tiny. On re-read I fell instantly in love with her name.
