My friend and I are wondering... Are you British? You look it. Sorry, that was a random comment. Have a nice day!
3. Beerzie Boy said:
If it weren't Utah, I'd pack up my shit and move my family there pronto. Wow I'm the third commenter.
4. Sara said:
I could charm the socks off you... but I'm a girl and I only weigh 123.5 lbs. Sorry!

Back to the topic of the other day... Dooce, think about this when thinking about procreating... you can't drink for a long long time. I just found out I am going to reproduce in about 8 months and giving up coffee, alcohol and allergy meds all in the same week has made me one colossal bitch. Prepare yourself if you plan to go down this road. On the flip side, it's all worth it to get my very own wriggling bundle of cuteness. I'm sure you'll feel the same way.

Dooce, you should do more pictures here. You really have an eye.

Excellent pictures!!

dooce... as always, beautiful pics. any chance we can get you to repost the picture effect post that you had in february?
9. dooce said:
chris: that entry is in the "photos" section under the title "That Lovely Glow Effect."

great pics! i especially like the tenth one down.

Since I missed my chance over the weekend to respond to you about the S-S-S, Dooce, at least it's that wonderful time of year when no one is telling you to wear it for the mosquitos. Because that smell is so not sexy, and when you're out in nature that beautiful with a hot Grizzly Adams type of guy and a dog who will guard you to the death as long as you please God don't smell like THAT, sexy is really what you're going for. Color me jealous.
12. Jenny said:
Awesome pictures!! The colors are magnificent. Wow. And your dogs are great to be so photogenic... I can never get my cats to hold still!
13. dooce said:
jen: my mom informed me over the weekend that Avon provides the US Military with tons and tons of Skin So Soft to help with repelling bugs and mosquitos. if you think about it, that's just totally weird, all these men and women in fatigues sporting guns and gas masks, all smelling like THAT. i mean, how could anyone smelling like THAT hurt anything?
14. thatnikkigirl said:
Hey Dooce,
I emailed you last friday with a donation, I wondered if you ever got it. Great site, we're linking to it today. Keep it up.
15. matty said:
it is just too damn beautiful there. joe smith had it right when he took his magic glasses and hit brood to utah, boy.
oh. to be on vacation in a beautiful place.
16. Kevin said:
Wow. The first picture is just amazing. Chuck looks fake, like a computer-animated Pixar fantasy dog from the perfect dog dimension. I'm not a dog person and Chuck makes me want to go out an buy a puppy.
17. thatnikkigirl said:
That's something I miss most about utah- the mountains. I grew up in the foothills of provo, 5 minutes from the canyon. I'm utterly convinced utah is the most beautiful place in the world.
18. ardenstone said:
Just saw Iron & Wine last week when we visited SF. I can't see your pictures because they're timing out :(. So I'll just listen to the album instead!
It's back! I can view the purty pictures. :)
19. Adrienne said:
Jeez, Dooce. You don't need kids, you've got that dog.
I think he'd be jealous...
20. Heather #2 said:
Chuck + beautiful Utah scenery + bearded delectability + that kick-ass indie music you keep trying to convert me to = the best Monday morning a girl could hope for from her office swivel chair.
YOU ROCK, sister.
21. mbc said:
i love that thing you do with the gaussian blur. i've tried it on my photos and it rocks my socks to the blocks.
on a random note, i met a heather from byu this weekend, but it wasn't you.
22. Irk said:
Purty!
23. Angelique said:

Lovely pics.
What kind of dog is Chuck? (assuming former congressman is not actually a registered breed..)
26. Texas T-bone said:
It's funny, but my mom grew up on an island off the coast of Virginia.
All the fishermen, most of them burly guys with large feet, used Skin So Soft to repel the killer marsh mosquitoes. It works!
Real men do use SSS.
Love your site.
27. dooce said:
chuck is a SuperMut. his orangish-tan coat is the result, as an expert once told us, of so much cross-breeding that he has become "generic." we think he is mostly Jindo, a breed brought to Los Angeles in the early 80s from Korea, he has the same stance and color and facial structure from pictures we've seen. it's all just a guess, really. we'll never know for sure, only that he is the most precious punkin in the whole wide world.
28. toze said:
do you give any sort of photoshopy treatment to your photos? because mine never looked this good...
29. jen said:
hmmm...our men and women overseas bathed in skin so soft? while I totally believe that they use it for the mosquitos, dude--that shit picks up every piece of random lint, hair, dirt and general what-have-you within a five mile radius and adheres it to your body as if with the glue of the ages. this just shows you how comfortable I am in armchair america that this thought is crossing my mind: oily skin so soft + sandstorm=huge, smelly, highly uncomfortable sandmonsters bent on the destruction of Baghdad.
30. Matt said:
Chuck's ears always seem to be standing at attention... Dogs look great when they look like that.
If only I could get our dog to slow down from electron-speed for long enough to get a good photo...
Awesome pix, Dooce!
31. EC said:
Beautiful. Both the dog and the scenery. Chuck looks like he was born to be out there.

The former congressman looks particulary bright-eyed, intelligent and resolute in these pictures. He should consider running for President.
34. candace said:
dooce, the pictures are great, but the soundtrack choice just finishes the effect. awestruck. :)
35. T. said:
Lovely pictures. Wonderful landscapes. Makes me want to go out and get a camera, that brilliant sunset too.
36. the mighty jimbo said:
ya know, for two full weeks i shoot fourteen rolls of film at one of the most beautiful beaches in thailand and i get maybe three or four photos to look half as good as your pictures of a dog and his nissan. sigh. i gotta get better at photoshop.
but then again, he is one fucking handsome mutt.

Why have you forsaken the time-honored tradition of the dooce.com tagline?
Have you hit some kind of tagline writer's block? Is this an initial manifestation of your incipient hatred of everything marketable? What in God's green earth has caused the demise of the tagline?
I am dumbfounded by its absence.
38. dooce said:
inmate: take a step away from the computer and breathe. there's a tagline in the title of the document that you should see at the top of the browser. i thought the design was too clean to stick a tagline in there. are you going to be okay?
39. ginchygirl said:
Dooce, love your work darl, and love your dog. I want.

first time visitor. love your site...really needed it today. fed up with work and loved reading the post on how you were fired. nosey bastards. you're inspiring me to take some photos now. thank you!
42. Kate said:
Chuck the Former Congressman SuperMut sure is a cutie! Lovely photos. Utah mountains look quite different from the Smokies... no lovely-asthma-inducing blue smog!
43. eddeaux said:
Love the photos, love the dog, love you-
I am new to your site- but I am already in love with your dog, your husband, and you. I love how you shoot it straight, your smart, funny, beautiful, witty, you have a cute dog, a good looking husband, that is only good-looking to us guys because you are so crazy about him and that rocks that camels ass! Okay, I will stop gushing now...
44. jennn said:
Egad. The second and third pictures up there are UNREAL.

awww...
Chuck = yum
46. Slocore said:
What kind of camera do you use?
47. Gaspar said:
I can't tell from the photos if he's just built this wide or if he's a little overweight. I should touch his ribs to make sure. You are not overfeeding him, are you?
(I mean, Chuck, not The Bearded)
48. colleen said:
I'm convinced that dogs know what we're doing when we point a camera in their sweet little faces. It looks like Chuck is posing for an A&F catalog or something. Supermodel puppy :)
49. Glovia said:
Assure me I have muscles, that is really great. And that's the beauty of being skinny - you can have absolutely no muscles and it kinda looks like you might. Okay, maybe not - but it sure is flattering.
50. Dude said:
...Chuckles is looking BUFF. Does he work out?

I was just wondering if maybe you can comment on your masthead designs on the Mastheads page. Interested in your inspiration behind a couple of designs (including current one)--no doubt others are interested as well-- and a line or two would definitely satiate my curiousity.
Just an idea, no offense if not implemented.
52. gen said:
i'm an amateur photographer, and i was wondering, what do you do to your pictures to get them to look the way they do? they have a soft, blurry-edged quality to them that i would love to reproduce on my own photographs...
also, what kind of camera do you use?
thanks in advance for your time! =)

i take my comment back, i read through them and noticed you already had the instructions on your pictures page.
i suck. sorry! =)

Now with Women in Suits.
Oh thank the Lord in Heaven.
Everything is well with the world once more.
In other news, I think I'm becoming myopic. Or overreactive.
55. moose said:
Whoa. You have so juiced up the colors in some of those shots. It really works, too. #14 is drop-dead.
Shaving the beard!? Tell me it isn't so. Was it nothing more than a tease? A whim? A mere winter coat? (Yeah, I know, it's hot in the desert in summertime.)
56. carson said:
once again, great pictures dooce. and just about the most perfect soundtrack choice...if you get a chance, see mr. beam and friends live. fo sheezy. (also, since i see you're into calexico and i&w, check out holopaw, norfolk & western, fruit bats. hooray for subpop!)
