Interpol: Antics

I mentioned that Jon and I listened to this album non-stop on our recent honeymoon weekend, and it took that whole weekend of listening to it to be able to differentiate the songs, they all sound very similar. But… even though these guys are poncy douche-bags on stage and dress in suit costumes and try to be very very cool and serious, they make some incredible music. On this album there is a song that has to be one of my favorite songs of the last year, a song called “Not Even Jail.” It’s a song that is very strong and drives from start to finish, which is what I really like about music from bands like Oasis and The Doves, that they make songs that shake the room and electrify you from the first note to the last, and this song is like that. It starts out strong and just continues and builds and comes back down but never too down.

I like this song so much that I keep playing it over and over in the car, and I sing it to Leta while I change her diaper. I think I like it so much because it sounds like how I feel now that I feel better, and I imagine myself on the rooftop of a tall building in the middle of a huge city, and this song is playing while I’m holding my hands in the sky and closing my eyes and feeling the wind as I turn in circles, very dramatic and happy and so glad to be alive.

The part I sing to Leta goes, “I promise to commit no acts of violence, either physical or otherwise, if things come alive. I'll say it now. I'll say it now. Say it now. Oh I'll say it now. Cause I want it now."

And then I imitate the guiater riff, “DENG DENG DENG DENG,” and she smiles and I want to be with her forever.
