I too don't know how anyone could do anything but love autumn. Just looking at that picture I get that feeling that they talked about in the movie American Beauty... where something is so pretty it makes your heart hurt- how can beautiful also feel so melancholy. Sighhhhhhh.... I also agree that the picture looks firey and destructive.

Enjoy the procedure, Dooce, but come back to us soon. We miss you here on the World Wide Web.

hi! this is the first time i've commented here, but i've been reading for awhile. Why not just add a comments section under your posts so we don't all have to post under the photo of the day page - usually with comments having NOTHING to do with the photo (which is great by the way). I cannot tell you how touched Leta is going to be when she grows up and is old enought to appreicate the way in which you documented her growing, with humor and love.

I was never head-over-heels in love with living in Utah. But whenever anyone would ask how I liked it there, I would always decline to detail all of the many ways I hated it and say something like, "I tell ya, Utah is so pretty this time of year." It is always, so pretty! That was it's one redeeming quality.
I almost missed living there, just briefly, just for a second and then I remembered the herds of church-going-mormonators on their high horses and those horrid liquor laws and the all around lack of good times...
Actually there is way too much to mention here. But that picture made me miss it for a second.

I always lover your monthly newsletters to Leta. I'm sure she'll treasure them when she's old enough as well, and even more when she's ready for kids of her own. This kind of familial history is a rare thing, really! I'm lucky that I have an aunt on my mother's side that is deeply into digging up the family history. (Else, I might never have known of an uncle who died tragically young. These sorts of things just Aren't Discussed in a good Minnesotan family.)
