I love this picture. This is one of my favorites so far. I like how the parking meter is sort of out of focus and fuzzy, and the numbers in the background just jump out at you.

Yes, Katie, terrorists do take pictures and videoes of buildings, which is how they help to map their bombing plots. I am glad that law enforcement are keeping their eyes peeled for these things.

In New York/New Jersey, a big plot was uncovered involving video and photography of the Prudential Building in Newark, NJ along with other major buildings to blow them up. Then, the terrorists had maps of my very own NJ transit bus and rail system on which to jump after they executed their attacks- the very same train I take every morning right through Newark downtown.

That's too bad for the Chinese tourist and kind of stupid of the officer- if he was Arab, however, I would feel sorry for him if he was innocent, but wouldn't feel one bit bad that he was questioned and/or stopped from taking pictures of municipal or public buildings.

About a year ago, someone was caught on the East coast and believed to have terror ties. In their possession there were several places here in Austin that were on video including some of the dams on the Colorado River that are operated and owned by my former employer. I was still working there at the time.

I actually havent had any issues with Blogger. I know a lot of people who use LiveJournal though as an alternative. But most of the blogs I know of are either Blogger or LiveJournal.

I have to say that I do get suspicious really easily. And if I saw someone in my front yard taking pictures of my condo I would probably be worried. But I think the authorities have to use some common sense. It is like they are targeting all the wrong people.

CatherineTressy and Naralius, I am not off my rocker and if you read my previous posts, you'd find that I work in NY and live in NJ- in a very diverse and progressive community. My husband's best friend is Libyan and I am best friends with is wife- no whitebread backwater in sight.

However, nearly ALL terrorists are muslims and/or Arab, and if you don't believe me, ask an Arab/Muslim- Thankfully, MOST of them are not terrorists and despise the actions of those who are.

I don't care if you LOOK Arab, so does my dark-skinned Italian husband. It would be an inconvience if he were targeted for searches at airports (which he can't be- because of a ridiculous law that says searches have to be random, hence little old ladies gettin' the patdown). Still, he, I, and our Arab friends are willing to be inconvenienced to help insure the relative safety of our flight.

Please people, go and do your research- Almost ALL terrorists have been Arab/Muslim. Katie, people engaging in hate crimes are NOT terrorists, they are people engaging in hate crimes and ought to be stoned accordingly. Terrorists are people who choose to strike at innocent and unarmed civilian populations IN ORDER TO TRY TO GAIN POLITICAL ENDS- hence hostage-taking, brokering and bargaining with prisoners, etc- bombings in order to scare civilian populations so much that they would pressure their own governments to change their policies. Let's please not paint with broad strokes. The folks that Katie mentioned are awful, but let's be clear, they are not terrorists.

We can go back and forth defining the word terrorist. I agree that politics are quite possible a motive, but not necessarily always the case. Timothy McVeigh was a terrorist - no one can argue that. And he is a Non-Arab. Then there was the UniBomber. Non-Arab. Whether or not they were looking for political gain is up for debate, but they were terrorists 100 percent. And they were white men - American white men. And they killed countless innocent women, men and babies.

And hey, guess what! My parents weren't lazy, nor uneducated. In fact, my father has worked harder than anyone I've ever known and he (at 53 years old) has yet to own his own house. You see, kiddies, he's deaf. And while he's capable and intelligent and motivated, it's just too damn much trouble to have a deaf person on your staff. My whole life, people assumed my dad was lazy, or stupid, or both. A computer whiz who lost his wedding ring laying brick for a summer (in the sweltering San Fernando Valley), just to keep us fed. I make no claims that everyone on welfare has a similar sob story. I'm just saying you grow up with a different perception of prejudice, one that has nothing to do with color or ethnicity or religion.

Because mommy and daddy pay for the world, therefore, the college kids think they own it. It's all about them. Didn't you know that?

We're moving to a better part of town within four months. Let the kids kill themselves from car accidents and alcohol poisoning. I really don't care. Because if you actually confronted the parents about their children's behavior, you'd get "MY Child would NEVER do such a thing. THAT's why I sent them AWAY for college. Katie: Yea. I worked for Yellow Book and we had a meeting there. I remember getting drunk on the bosses dollar. Not a "college" place though.

I was lucky in that when I was a little girl, I was my dad's "fishin buddy", and we would always go to a bar after a day on the boat. He'd have a few beers and I'd have a few sodas and beef jerkies. We'd play shuffleboard (he would "let" me win and it pissed me off) and he'd bribe me with quarters for the video game machine if I told mom he only had 2 beers (Mom always asked when we got home). So when I was 16, 18, 20, I didn't really feel the need to get a fake ID or sneak into bars.

Katie, as an ex-smoker-turned-smoker-again, I'm not sure my advice is the best. That said, when I quit in '88, I used copious amounts of grape Pop-tarts to quell my cravings. And dreamed about cigarettes every fuckin' night for a year.

I have been an ex smoker many many times. The age old saying applies: Never quit quitting. I think people make withdrawl sound worse than it is. Quitting for me has always been pretty easy. Of course the down side is that starting again has been even easier. Damnit!

Just going to jump in and throw my two cents into the pot:

I lived in Hawaii for three years where I experienced first hand the beauty of the islands and the pains of reverse discrimination. Being white isn't always peachy...I was fired because I am white, my family and I were taunted, ridiculed and basically treated like lesser beings because we weren't islanders. I don't have any hate for the situation, I just know what it is like to be treated that way. And so I, having had that experience, understand on some small scale the hurt that can be felt when you are treated less than a human being for the color of your skin [or lack of color in my case]. Diversity is good...it opens eyes...but when it is used to make excuses, or hold others down for the sake of diversity...well that is another thing entirely.

Now back to your regulary scheduled program. :)

I don't actually think you're spreading fear. I was just concerned about pigeon holing people. I may not agree with how you word things, but I’ll trust you when you say that your intentions are good. I prefer to give you the benefit of the doubt :-)
