Has any one but me noticed that Heather looks like the nun on that End of Times show on Weds on NBC: "Revelations".
Cheek bones to spare. They could blind you....
On a lighter note:

I beg to differ Trance (220), JournalCon is in San Diego this year, not San Francisco. (http://www.measi.net/journalcon/home.html) I don't suppose we can convince Heather to go?
313. Muffy said:
I just read her recent post. Very moving.
I have many smells that bring wonderful memories to mind. However, about a year and a half ago, I found myself in jail. It wasn't a big deal, and I'm hardly the criminal type (with a name like Muffy?), but the only soap you could get from the commissary was Irish Spring.
TO THIS DAY, I cannot stand the smell of it. No rainspring fresh for me. All it brings to mind is bad food, worse grammar, and hearing "TO the windows, to the walls" second hand from jailhouse headphones.
Lemme tell ya, if they say country music is entertainment for farm animals, then Rap is definitely entertainment from inmates.
However, I did get to catch up on Little House on the Prairie!
314. Leanne said:
i have been reading your blog for awhile but have never commented. i just needed to let you know that your story about the baby lotion brought me to tears. i suffered from post partum depression after the birth of my second son almost two years ago. there are scents, clothes and pictures I cling to because they remind me, not of how hard and horrific that time was, but how amazingly lucky i am that my husband and children are so resilient and that they never ever once thought of giving up.
315. Muffy said:
pardon me, Entertainment FOR inmates. Quite frankly, I didn't find many of them to be that talented to create anything from their own mind.

Heather, you are an amazing and resilient woman. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us.

The real thing is I love the "in your face" no bullshit way you tell your stories with the girl next door sweetness and charm. By the way the panties vision is better than Chuck trying to crap or puke a corn dog stick.
319. Elegant Goose said:
Ah HA! I emailed Dooce yesterday asking what happened to the comments. I had missed them so much that I had a dream about Dooce & family moving in upstairs from me. While I was dreaming I realized it was a dream because I didn't know what her voice was supposed to sound like. It was so weird I had to email her.
320. Katie-be-bored-at-work said:
Wow, I have NOT been bored at work today. First day of comments and I haven't been around for a few hours. And wow - I must say that Heather's post today is beautiful. It brought tears to my eyes. Good tears, though. Tears that make you realize that life really does have perfect moments, and that love really can conquer our innermost demons. I could totally smell that lavendar scent in my mind - there is nothing more beautiful than a freshly washed baby that smells of lavendar. Thanks, Heather, for reminding me that it is the small things in life that really make a difference.
Now I am even more appalled that they want to ban odors from the Houston Library. B-O and strong perfume really suck, but I don't want anyone encroaching on my right to sniff!
321. Muffy said:
Goose, you're not alone. I've had Heather dreams. Many of us have. It must be our brains only have time to digest all the wit and charm during off times. Because we're too busy commenting during our waking hours. Or thinking about commenting when comments are down.
322. Muffy said:
Katie, Have you ever smelled someone wearing Perry Ellis 360?
Think burnt rubber meets new car.
But the person who is drenching themselves in it thinks they're the bomb. They're usually self-absorbed like that, I find.
323. Katie-be-bored-at-work said:
I agree that there are some noxious odors out there. I hate smelly armpits, that's for sure. But can you imagine a library security guard throwing a dude out of the library because he has pit stains? That is just weird.
They actually banned the making of popcorn at my old job. They said that it makes half the people crave popcorn, and the other half want to vomit because all they can think about is a smelly movie theatre. Apparently it drives away clients.
324. Susannah said:
I wish they would ban microwave popcorn at my office. That is the NASTIEST smelling shit ever.
325. Muffy said:
Actually, Susannah, I would say m/w popcorn should be No. 2, behind Tunafish.
Really, someone tell me, how do you get that cat-food looking/smelling crap past your nose and into your mouth?
326. jimmy corrigan said:

Jon's hair looks pretty too. :)
332. Katie-be-bored-at-work said:
Or she could have said "Wal-Marts". I have noticed that many people add an "s", as if they were visiting a plurality of Wal-Mart stores. "I'm gonna head on out to the Wal-Marts and buy me some Charmin and tuna-fish". Dammit people, it's Wal Mart!!!!
333. Katie-be-bored-at-work said:
Also, I think it is really nifty that Heather has a sister named September. She was right when she said Mormons give their kids original names.
334. Elegant Goose said:
I love Dooce's bittersweet posts. I also love how she and Jon take care of her. I have my own boy named John (WITH an "h"!) and he was very helpful to me. Right after Thanksgiving in 2002, my mom went into the hospital for surgery and almost didn't come out. She was in a coma for over 5 weeks and the doctors said it didn't look good. I called up John and asked if he had time to hang out a couple days after it happened- we were just friends at that point- he actually had a different girlfriend. He cancelled his plans with her because I really just needed someone to talk to. He was always there for me - and he was a bit disappointed that she couldn't understand that one of his friends needed him. (I think she thought I was trying to steal him, which I totally was not!) Anyway, we've been together for over two years now and he's the best thing that ever happened to me. He's supportive and loving and, like Jack Nicholas in "As Good As it Gets" he makes me want to be a better [woman].

Katie-be-bored-at-work, I think the people who say "I'm just going to Wal-Marts" are the same ones who say "ValentiMe's Day" and "acrossed" (instead of across) and "I seen it last week." And "li-berry." And "heith" (instead of "height"). And oh my god, I could go on and on.

The smell of braunschweiger (sp?) always makes me think of when I was in grade school, and my dad and I would be home for lunch at the same time. He'd always have braunschweiger and French's mustard on rye bread.

I'm betting on yes.

I know, I keep a mental list of all the things I hear people say that make me want to tear my hair out (I once had a roommate who used to leave me notes that said "Holly, your mom call") and sometimes it GETS AWAY FROM ME and I end up peeving myself to death, just like you said.
Peeve, coincidentally, is a marvelous word and we should all use it as much as we can. Along with panache and cornucopia. And brouhaha. And segue.
360. Trance said:
I love panache. Also gauche.
I hate those who end sentences with prepositions, "finna" - as in, "I finna go to the store"; and extra "done"s, as in, "I done told you ten times to do yo' damned homework!"
Obviously I am from the ghetto.
361. Amanda B. said:
Aw, Dooce. That last post made me cry. I remember how much I related to what you were going through then, and how much I hoped you'd feel better.

My kids are older but because my niece and nephew spent a lot of tme with us we taught our dogs "Easy." Nice picture, as always. But my good LORD I have never seen so many people get in a lather over *gasp* someone who used curlers in her hair. The reactions are just a little creepy. I guess I'm not impressed because seriously, curled/big hair? That's one of the first things southern women are taught to do.

Man, anytime anyone mentions curlers, I think of that stupid old Dippity Do commercial: "Curlers in your hair...shame on you!"
Anybody else here old enough to remember those?

Thanks Wickedfun...
But I just realized,,
I have over 30 thank you notes for my bridal shower two weeks ago that have NOT been written. The hangover FINALLY wore off!
And being that I'm getting married in three weeks in vegas, and my mom will be there, and she WILL BE inquiring about the thank you notes...I think I gotta write thank you notes...

And really...what shame is there in wearin' curlers?
Now, if the commercial went: "Clothespins on your nipples...shame on you!" I coulda understood that one a little more...
