I've been keeping you and Leta and Jon in my thoughts, Heather ... you've become like family over the years to me.
(the fun-crazy family that I look forward to visiting with as often as possible, not the insane-crazy family that we have to shut off the lights and hide behind the couch for when they come to call ... come on, y'all got them too!)

38. Danielle said:
You have taken quite a gorgeous photo, dooce. I think you really captured that exciting sparkle of spring.
I hope all went well with Leta's MRI yesterday.
I haven't commented in a while, but that doesn't mean that I'm not out here reading and looking at your photos. (I especially loved the Moab ones)

Susie - vibrating and praying. Two words I never thought I'd see in the same sentence.
Dooce - hope your house was shaking yesterday with all the good vibes being sent your way. Looking forward to the update.
48. Susie said:
niffer, they go together. If you started vibrating -- you, not your appliances -- I'll bet you'd pray. And if you pray REALLY hard, you start to vibrate. Or something like that.
I feel like we're in the hospital waiting room. I'll go get us some nasty coffee from the machine.
49. k rain said:
Exquisite.
Isn't it true that everything is just SO MUCH EASIER in the spring? As opposed to SO MUCH DAMN HARDER in the winter?
Maybe that's just me.
50. Nilbo said:
Susie vibrates so hard she ends up in hospital? Man, you gotta get you a vibrator that doesn't start with a pull-cord ...

Nilbo! Missed ya, buddy!
Okay, everyone is being so nice today. Do I dare be the one who brings the rolling pin to the party, or shall I be nice and fold my hands in my lap and hum show tunes?
64. Stacy said:
Thinking of Leta last night...
Also looking at the tulips this morning (refuse to use pronouns in written communications today) as they lean towards the rising sun and thinking, "Dude... I FEEL your pain."
Damn. That was a pronoun.
65. CanadianAmy said:
Kumbaya, my bucky, Kumbaya.

It's a waiting room. We're trying to have a little decorum. Like you would know anything about THAT.
67. Nilbo said:
You do whatever you want in your lap, as long as I get to lick the rolling pin when you're done ...
As for decorum in a waiting room ... pfft ... these are people who, on a daily basis, remove Gumby from peoples' nether regions ... decorum is unnecessary ...

Beautiful!

72. giggles said:
Heather - I truly hope everything went okay yesterday. I know it's stressful for you and Jon to see little Miss Leta in this situation - but in the long run, when she's been given the clean bill of health we know she'll be given, you'll feel so much better knowing all is well. You all were in my (and I’m sure many others) prayers.
Susie - I'll go with you to get some coffees and cappuccinos for everyone waiting. I hope they keep the musack down to a minimum while we wait. :-)

Yes, more big group hugs from the Midwest, and I'm hoping that the gorgeous tulip picture is an indication that your spirits are good in the House of Dooce, as we all await good news about Leta.
On a completely unrelated note, if you quit your job, can you then blog about all the stories you DIDN'T tell while employed, because you were wise and listened to Heather B. Armstrong & didn't wanna get dooced? I'm thinking that somehow, someway, it can still bite ya in the arse.

So did Chuck do a yoga stance on that lovely flower after you took the pic?
PS: Dooce, just so you know, not only have you and your site wasted countless work hours of mine, NOW YOU'VE INVADED MY DREAMS! I'm serious! Last night I dreamed I met you and the fam (I even had treats for Chuck) as you came to a friends house for dinner. Just so you know, you had the septic tank poopy red hair thing going on. JUST SO YOU KNOW! So stay OUT of the dye aisle at "the" Costco. You've been warned!

Hooray! I'm glad there was good news yesterday, Heather, and that everything went well -- you know, in the "even though Leta wasn't thrilled about it and you guys were probably pretty stressed and anxious about it all" kind of way.
Rest easy today, Heather (in the "you're a stay-at-home-Mom and never get a break to do anything more than pee, but at least you don't have to go to the hospital for any nasty MRI tests today" kind of way.)
112. Susie said:
coskel, I did put on my Hello Kitty helmet before saying this to you, but, maybe give some tulips to the evil client, then they won't need killin' quite so much? Maybe?

Ohmygod...Here we are, talking about beautiful spring flowers, and what happens? The florist JUST DELIVERED a gorgeous basket of tulips and spring flowers to moi! I am so blessed to be marrying such a wonderful man in LESS THAN TWO MONTHS!! (Viewable, live as it happens, May 18, 1:30 PST - Vivalasvegasweddings.com)
So I've got flowers on my desk from the man of my dreams, and I've got the Queen of Blog, Heather B. Armstrong, IN MY DREAMS! All I need now is Jimmy Buffett to show up at Margaritaville, Las Vegas, to play our wedding, and I'll die a happy woman.
And yes, my prayers were all about "the frog" last night. Sending you, Jon, Leta and Chuck many prayers for continued good health. May you never be dragged into an Olive Garden against your will! (Heather, I actually printed the "Free Breadsticks" post and it now sits on top of the stack of National Geographics in our loo). I can't say it enough, Heather, you are my HERO!

Dooce,
I am so grateful that Leta is going to be fine. Yesterday I came back so many times, looking for an update. I was holding my breath through your whole post.
So grateful, so thankful.
You look so vulnerable holding her in that pic from the hospital that I started weeping as soon as I saw it. Wasn't sure why, if it would be joy or what. A big part of why I am so thankful is that Leta is loved and cared for by you and Jon.

Well, Spurious Plum, tulips would be a good thing to cure yer black thumb, cuz all you gotta do is plant the bulbs in the fall, and keep the chipmunks from making off with them 'til spring. That said, ours are barely up; my husband checks on them every morning like they're his babies.
Bucky, Troy's in the house! You know that people from Troy are just Flint wannabees.

Yay Leta!!! Please let me know if they do get a pill for stubbornness; my 4-year-old is the poster child for strong-willed kids.

Can I be an unofficial Michigander if I spent a summer there? And fantasize about living there? But only April through October or so, and just one month in the winter, because that $^&% is COLD!!! (I was in the UP, also about a week in January, which is why I know the COLD part)
183. Spurious Plum said:
Becaru - Only thing I've grown successfully were some bulbs I forced. They grew pretty and tall...so tall in fact, that they began leaning out of their glass dish, and committing suicide off the kitchen counter every few days. 3 smashed dishes later, I gave up.
Thanks for the heads up, I'll try tulips next time. Do they have any emotional issues you're aware of?

Nice flowers, too.

Hi, all! What a relief about Leta! (Although from what little I've always understood about child development, the age at which kids reach milestones is much less important than the fact that they reach them in a certain order. My 13-year-old son was a late talker--I worried and worried--he finally started and hasn't paused for breath since.:))
The only problem with tulips in the Deep South is that if you plant them in the ground, they won't come up year after year. I love them but am too lazy to plant them as annuals.

Tulips in general are a finicky bulb in my opinion. I love them to death, but they are hard to gage sometimes. Aside from being a favorite dish for many critters and insects, they don't always return as vigorously year after year.
I prefer to plant Narcissus and Aliums, as they aren't as tasty to critters and nothing says spring like Daffodils.

And I have a funny story about haina. When I was three years old, my mom and I were at a gas station and the gas station attendant kept saying "It's a nice day, haina?" and "You are such a cute little girl, haina?" and "Christmas is just around the corner, haina?" Finally I turned to him and said "My name's not Haina, it's Katie!" The guy looked at me like I was an alien, or something. Pretty sad when a toddler is smarter than a grown-up. But I miss those "hainas"

BethA's comment made me giggle. My mum is spending a few days here with me in the city in which I've made home for the past three years, and we were talking about learning how to drive and such. Spurious, No, we pretty much just say "youse guys" around here. I even made a joke about it as in:
What do you call two guys on a double date from Noxen (Noxen is the NEPA equivalent of Arkansas/West Virginia - lots of "suspected/alleged" inbreeding)
Answer: "Ewes guys"
I know, I know. But I know EVERY Noxen joke there is to know. And some of them are quite foul.
The whole "yins" thing is quite regional to the western part of the state. Of course, NEPA is the armpit of the Rust Belt, so we have our own way of speaking. But I do so love it here. We've got lots of Yuengling on draft, some of the best pizza and wings in the nation, and the kicker: The George Wesley Band. Check em out. Georgewesley.com
But alas, we don't have dooce. I'd leave it all to live by dooce, but then again, mormons...need i say more. Heather, if you ever make it up these parts, I'll buy ya a tequila with a yuengling chaser. Then we'll grab some Abe's hoddogs and you can poop at my place. I'd be honored.

I used to have to drive through Noxen on my way to my college roommates house in Tunkhannock (which happens to be a "great place to live"). Noxen was noxious. I went into a little convenience store (FIRST mistake, don't ever get out of your car in Noxen - just keep driving), and the owner of the store was sort of toothless and was cross-eyed, I kid you not.
Aw, Yuengling Lager... how I miss my Yuengling. You know they don't sell that outside PA and Jersey? Nowhere in Houston have I found my beloved beer. MMM, and I could go for a hoddog right now.

Okay, Katie, I used to date this guy, from Kingston, BUTLER STREET no less (where all the aristocratic hypocrites live),and this guy thought his shit didnt stink (it did), but for all his "education" he would say "acrost" instead of across. Drove me freakin NUTS! To this day, if my fiancee says acrost, as in "acrost the river", he fixes his own damn dinner. You see, although I live here, I don't drink the water. In fact, I said that in court once, and even the bailiff giggled. And as far as Noxen goes, yea, it's kind of weird, and if you're a person of color, DONT STOP, you won't be chillin in your crib ever again. Although, if you go through town (i use that term very loosely), make a left over the bridge, and drive until you hit the dirt road, and keep driving, oh say, forever, (about 7 miles) you will find some beautiful picnic spots in the gamelands. The road is a total bitch (be prepared to stop occasionally to make sure you didnt lose a wheel bearing). It's also a good place to get naked and roll around in the mud and be a mud person.
