Ohhhhhkay now I'm getting freaked out...there's normally 100 comments by now! LOL. Oh well I can sit here and talk to my little self all day...
BTW hi Heather! I love how you've conquered snowboarding. You never give up, way to go!! I don't fall on my butt so much now, and I've only had the one hospital trip, so maybe I'll master it one day ;-)
7. hippiechic said:
WOOHOO!!! First post and within the top 10!! You look wicked mean in this picture Heather...in a sexy kind of way.

I like how the google ads associated your word pain with tampons.

Cool, Heather is getting up early these days.
Good for us from Europe! USA is still sleeping... :)
10. Jo said:

11. Jo said:
hello everybody!
12. Kiki said:
Hope there won't be too many posts from Dooce without the ALL CAPS. Love them!
13. Jo said:
Kiki where abouts r u in Europe?
14. Kiki said:
From Finland! :) And today we have a sunny, but very cold day. As I heard rest of Europe had huge amout of snow yesterday also.
15. Jo said:
We did, only it isn't settling where I live- Manchester, England. Boo!!
16. minxlj said:
Hi Jo - I'm in Newcastle, England, so you're not too far from me!
17. Mr Bob said:
I want snow!!!
18. Jo said:
Howdy minx! I have family near Newcastle. I love the place! Is it snowing there?
19. minxlj said:
Oh YES it's snowing here!! We've had tons of the stuff since the weekend, it's great. I work here and live in Darlington (Newcastle born though) and it's even worse there, we had another 3 inches of snow this morning. Woohoo!
20. Jo said:
No fair! We have some piddling little flakes on and off for days but it just disappears. Who's bright idea was it to stick Manchester in a valley so all we ever get is rain, rain, a few flakes, and more rain?
21. M@ said:
Holy crap, am I really the first in the US to post? Check it out!
Go Heather, strip the skin from our faces with that one look! Please post more pics from your trip.
22. Rob from London said:
Might as well say hi to the other Ukanians out there. It's been snowing here on and off since Monday. I love it!
I should make a point of seeking out the proper snowboarding spots. If Heather can do it, so can i!
23. minxlj said:
Jo, I just looked at your site - YOU LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY GAL. You will LOVE California, esp. San Francisco - I fell in love with that place and am aching to go back!!!!!!!! So before long you won't be putting up with too much rain!
24. romy said:
heh. i know that face - that's the "dear god, why do you keep letting me make my own decisions? why?" face. with a particular head-tilt for the ski slopes.
25. Jo said:
I dont actually come from Manchester, i'm from down south, but I'm here at Uni. I always thought that what people said about Manchester always raining was a myth, but the past 3 years of living here has proved them right. Doh!
26. Jo said:
Minx I have been to CA before and fell in love, which is why i'm going back! I'm just TOO excited.
27. minxlj said:
LOL yeah it's true. My dad lives in Rochdale, other family in Manchester, and every time I visit it rains! I still love Manchester though, great place to shop!!!!
28. Kiki said:
Darn wintersports! I wish I could ski, but when I ski, it looks like Bridget Jones in the second part.
Straight down.
Get out of my way, I can't stop...
NO JOKING!
29. Jo said:
Hi to Rob from London!
30. Jo said:
ah yes, we do have the beloved Trafford Centre.
31. Jo said:
I love skiing, have never snow boarded though. My friend's brother nearly dying on the first day of his snow boarding holiday kinda put me off...
32. minxlj said:
Hi to all the Brits :-D
Good international flavour to the dooce.com comments this week!
33. Jo said:
She's a true International celebrity!
34. Jo said:
Minx when you went to CA did you drive Highway 1?
35. Lilla said:
Gosh, Heather you look p*ssed off! Wanna trade in and do my job in the office?! Don't think so. Enjoy the snow sweetheart, we only get sad little drizzle here in London....
36. Kiki said:
My friends forbid me to send the link to her page, after I told them, how addictive it is.
37. minxlj said:
Yeah...I've been telling my friends about Dooce and they wonder what the hell I'm talking about...but the phenomenon is spreading worldwide!!
38. Jo said:
When i first found Dooce i read her giving birth to Leta story, and i was hooked.
39. minxlj said:
Jo, not sure if I did Highway 1 cos I was too busy stressing out over directions, LOL!! My fiance did the driving :-D
We did drive from SF to LA...beautiful drive, and plenty driving up and down the hills in SF - fun!!
Note to all: driving in LA is a BREEZE compared to London!! The M25 is the seventh circle of hell!!
40. Jo said:
That is what we are doing, driving Highway 1 from SF to LA. Before that we are driving from Las Vegas to SF, via Death Valley and Yosemite :D
41. minxlj said:
Jo, you don't know how insanely jealous I am of you right now!!!!
Didn't have time to do Yosemite last time I went to SF but I'm definitely going next year. My fiance and I are getting married overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge in SF :-D
42. Jo said:
Right, got to venture into the cold to hand in an essay. Grr. Bye all!
43. Jo said:
Bloody hell, Minx! That sounds amazing! Congrats and good luck! xxx
44. ap said:
You have the same look I do when I've been holding in the seething rage and I'm beginning the mental countdown to the precise moment I explode.
By the way - where DO you put the camera when you're snowboarding?
45. minxlj said:
I'm eloping to evade the family, LOL. My lot are more trouble than they're worth!
I love the USA...wish I was over there snowboarding in Utah snow now, even if I do fall and nearly snap my wrist again!
I never really fancied going to Utah til I saw all Dooce's pics and it's really made me want to visit...Dooce you should be sponsored by the Utah Tourist Board!!
46. Lilla said:
Minx & Jo, all this talk about SF, LA and driving in Cali is totally distracting, folks... I am jealous too, slaving away in the office in London. Religiously love SF, good place to get married.
47. Jo said:
At least you dont have the Manchester weather to contend with, Lilla! lol.
48. minxlj said:
Lilla, I'm doing the same thing! With all this snow up here I sooooooo don't want to be stuck in the office.
I move to suggest that graphic designers (i.e. me!) will get much more inspiration by being allowed to go out and sledge down the hill in the snow. It's beneficial to my work, I reckon...
49. Jo said:
You go Minx! Start an office reveloution!
50. Alison said:
All we need now is the I've fallen on my butt shot.

Why can't we have snow and warm weather at the same time? The winter her in southern Norway has been miserable. Hardly any snow, but fairly mild weather. Now it is freazing (-5 deg C) and a few cm of snow. The only skiing I'm doing is in my mind while watching the skiing world championships (nordic events, the only real way to ski) from Oberstorf, Germany. Norway and Russia are now in the lead on the 2nd leg of the 4x10km relay. GO NORWAY!!
53. Jo said:
And YES, I am a university stident and should know better.
54. Jo said:

59. Jo said:
Thank you Lilla, I will. lol. All i really need is for someone to give me a slap and tell me to stop procrastinating, hand that damn essay in and write the bloody dissertation. And spare motivation lying around?
60. Jo said:
*ANY* Jesus.
61. Lilla said:
Question for you folks in US: I'm heading to Philadelphia next week, what's the weather like there? I need some 1st hand info. Thanks.
62. minxlj said:

Hmm, now what to use as a sledge?????
63. Jo said:
Take the wheels off your desk chair and sled in style!
64. Lilla said:
Jo, get over yourself and just hand in the damn essay! x
65. Jo said:

67. minxlj said:
It's impossible to have the motivation to hand in essays in the British winter! But at least it'll be out of the way and you can curl up with a nice cup of hot tea and some toast :-D
Damn, now I'm hungry!!
68. Lilla said:
Minx, freezing fingers all the way through! Not amusing. Could do with a big mug of hot chocolate (+ some bourbon)
69. Lilla said:

73. minxlj said:
You're on Lilla, Starbucks hot chocolate is my fave!!
74. minxlj said:
Make sure you try it with whipped cream and a peppermint shot - mmmmmm lovely!
I'm so going there after work now!
75. LRinPhilly said:
Lilla -- right now we're expecting 5-8" (12-20cm) of snow, but that should be cleared up by the weekend (more snow might come on Monday). Temps should be around 0-5 degrees C.
I hope you have a good trip!
76. Abby said:
Love the face.
It was 80 degrees here in Florida yesterday.
77. minxlj said:
LOL Abby's making us ALL jealous now!!
I'm off to Florida in August - can't wait! DisneyWorld and American shopping malls...I'm so going to be bankrupt!
78. Richeypoo said:
That photo looks suspiciously like me on my way to work today - frozen, red-faced, covered in snow, and NOT VERY HAPPY. The joys of winter!

I did my first snowboarding ever 3 weeks ago. Two days of it
My arse is still sore.
THREE WEEKS.
I love the feeling of "I need to focus all of my will and strength to get any particular part of my body to move". That feels good. I wish I could wake up like that every morning.
80. Circus Kelli said:
Minxlj: I'm up for some hot cocoa! It's only going to be "around" 33 degrees F here in Northern Illinois today and it's gray and will probably snow.
I just want to get the hell outta dodge and go someplace warm with LOTS of sunshine...
81. Circus Kelli said:
Ha! Great picture! I can almost "feel your pain."
I hope you're doing better today, Heather.
82. Denise said:

83. minxlj said:
My first ever snowboarding lesson, I thought my feet were going to detach from my legs, they were SO sore! I also nearly broke my wrist and ended up in pain for 2 months with torn ligaments etc. And I still went back for more when it had healed - ha!
I laughed myself silly reading Dooce's accounts of trying to snowboard, cos that was me!
I think I literally turned the air blue, and advised EVERYONE to stay the hell away from me, in case I killed anyone. LOL
84. Gia said:
Wow you're up early! You have a small child or something???
Get pic - I'm impressed you took your cam to the hill. I'd have crushed mine in my many tumbles.

Dooce -
I know you're incredibly busy and have very little time for trivial tasks, but could you me a favor and visit the site linked to my name. It is my friend Jenni's site. I listed her in the inspiring women post because she's awesome, I really think you'd enjoy her writing, and she reads you all the time. In fact, I wouldn't be reading this site everyday if it weren't for her. So, if you have time, please check it out. Thanks!
p.s. You rock!
86. minxlj said:
Yeah...where are all the Americans today?? Usually tons of comments by now.
I think a few have just got too excited at posting in the top 10, it's finally got the better of them...it's too much of a rush ;-)
87. coskel said:
I think a lot of the regular commenters stopped because they were getting over 600+ - I've been reading for years and rarely comment, but I've noticed a lot of people have stopped. I kow its hard for me working 12 hour days to read through 600 comments although they are often hysterically fun. :)
88. itsme said:
The Americans are most likely asleep seeing as though the first post was at 4:31a if your on the East Coast, such as myself. There's no way in hell I'd want to be first THAT bad!
89. Mad as hell said:
Thanks for giving away who won Project Runway. Not everyone saw it last night for reason beyond their control. Just another example of what a self absorbed idiot you are.
90. Bucky Four-Eyes said:
Yeah, 'cause, like, there was no possible way for anybody to know that, like, Project Runway would actually be *discussed* on this site or anything.
91. Circus Kelli said:
Itsme: Heh, I *wish* I was still asleep.
MadasHell: Wow. Good morning to you, too. Would you like some coffee, or maybe a donut?
92. Sarah said:
I just came into work, here on the east coast of America, and it is only 8:30am. Heather is being devious and posting pics in the wee hours of the dark morning...maybe she has an automatic thing now?
"Mad as Hell," GET OVER IT. It is TV, not life or death.
93. Sarah said:
I see Dooce brains
94. Circus Kelli said:
Sarah: I'd like to have half the web smarts that Heather has. I'd also like my site to update automatically... how cool would that be?
95. minxlj said:
Er....what's Project Runaway?
Explain, for us Brits who've never heard of it :-D
96. Sarah said:
CK--automatic updates would rock. I want to be home working on my blog and reading other blogs ALL.THE.TIME.
97. beachgal said:
Nice picture Dooce. So glad you had fun on your trip. I've never tried skiing or snowboarding, no time, money or coordination. Maybe someday.
98. Girl.A said:
Mad, that is hysterical!!
Knowing that Dooce watches Project Runway religiously and has written about what unfolds on that show...
You expect Dooce to write her personal thoughts about her personal experiences based on your desires?
Now that, my dear mad person, is truly mad. As in nutty as a Chinese Diarrhea Sculpture After Eating Cashew Chicken.
99. henry said:
circus kelli -
that'd be incredibly easy to do... web coding etc != rocket science (which in itself, i am told, is not that hard either).
100. Susie said:
Mad as Hell, you just march yourself right back upstairs and get back into bed. Anyone who wakes up that grumpy in this house must go get more sleep. Shoo! Git!

I was thinking that maybe you and I could share a gallery and have a combined Chinese Diarrhea Sculpture extravaganza.
The display would be stunning, yet the individual works would be priced modestly enough for even the blue-collar budget.
104. Mad as hell said:

Just how many British people are there posting on Dooce today? And how many of us live in London?
106. Circus Kelli said:
Oooo Sarah! Me too! AND, I want to get paid to read other blogs all the time!
107. Circus Kelli said:
Susie, did I mention I'm feeling especially bitchy today, too??
108. Circus Kelli said:
Mad: Actually, I still think she does. Neener Neener.
109. minxlj said:
It didn't spoil a thing for me :-D
Never even heard of it!
110. Susie said:
But CK, you're not taking it out on the rest of the family. That makes all the difference. But you can go back to bed, too, if you think it would help.
111. Wicked H said:
Getting snow here in Metro DC as well - yay!!
Can't wait to see the shots of Dooce mastering the snow board.
112. Circus Kelli said:
Susie, well, you're right. I'm not taking it out on the rest of the family, but, you know, I *might*. Yes, I think it's best if I just go back to bed.
113. minxlj said:
Gingermog - nice website! As a fellow designer, I like your work.
There's been quite a few Brits on today - from London, Manchester, and me from Newcastle. :-D

Sweet dreams, CK. You'll be more cheerful when we see you again. (I hope Mad sleeps ALL DAY).

I like Flintstone best. Makes me feel all cavewoman and shit. Somebody come drag me away by the hair. . .

I am bitchy today. It is raining out there, the streets are flooded, and I was a half hour late to work. My computer at home is on the fritz, and I couldn't bring my camera with me to work to upload my self portrait and self portrait butt shot that I took last night because it was raining so hard my camera would have floated away. What the hell is Thursday without self portraits and butt shots?!?

All this snow talk has reminded me of the cheesiest line from a movie (not that i am ok with admitting i watched this movie...). I think its called Jack Frost, and Michael Keaton dies and comes back to his son as a...snowman. This kid gets teased a lot but his friend says "Hey, Snowdad's better than no dad!". POssibly the worst quote EVER. Oops sorry, did I SPOIL that for everyone who hasnt seen Jack Frost?

Jo, I thought I was the only person who thought that movie was the biggest piece of crap ever made. My boyfriend was actually watching it and he said "Sit down! This movie is great!" I was actually scared by Michael Keaton's character - that snowman had a demonic look in his eye. I thought it was a horror flick at first. Like, Attack of the Killer Snowman.
174. Amanda B. said:
This is not a happy Dooce face. This is a "What the hell am I doing out here I hope I don't die" face. I'm glad you got the hang of the snowboarding thing though. I think I would not have faired as well. I'd probably just ride the ski lift up and down all day. That's fun.

I think possibly the worst moment of that movie is at the very end when Jack Frost the snowman magically turns into Michael Keaton's ghost so he can say one last goodbye to his kid. It was at this point that I realized how much that snowman looks like Michael Keaton. Michael Keaton looks pretty evil, too, if you think about it.
201. Jo said:
Obviously! That was no snowman mask he was wearing! Keaton actually IS a snowman. AN EVIL ONE.

I love seeing all the Brits talking to each other as if they were the first up on Christmas morning! That was the best opener for comments in a long time.
