Self portrait Wednesday? She looks nothing LIKE Wednesday from the Addam's Family. Love the mirror - I used to have one like it a few years ago until my nephew broke it. DAMMIT, we can't have nice things. Have a swell day, Doocekateers.

  • 25. patty said:

    My...stupid...computer...is...so...infected...with...stupid...spyware...

I knew the picture was changing and I couldn't do anything. It's like one of those bad dreams where you're trying to run and your feet are moving...oh...so...slowly.

    Heather-
Can I have the molding in your house? Also the fireplace? I will trade you 3 already mobile kids who (mostly)understand how to use the computer properly.

Thanks for letting us know about it!

Is it open to people who aren't as famous as Heather?

  • 37. Kate said:

I understand the constant problems you have with your hair, but it looks fabulous in that photo. You look cool enough to live in the East Village here in New York City. You could even bring your now mobile child with you. It's all the rage.

    Congrats on that btw. (sucka!)

Your ability to look serious will come in SO handy when Leta's like, 15. I like that you aren't grinning all the time, so all you's who keep telling her to smile should STAND DOWN.

Your site is my first stop every morning before I begin my dull-as-dust office job. (And to be honest, several times during the day too!) Your unique outlook lifts my spirits, makes me laugh, and gives me great hope that there really is LIFE out there. THANK YOU. It is also very refreshing to read about a couple that are happily married and in love - congratulations!

Bucky, why you always gots ta be dragging da minkey into this heeya thang?

Please just let minkey cower in the corner ... where no one can see him.

So Dooce- I had a pretty wierd dream where me and my friends went to Utah to hang out with you! But you dyed your hair that white blonde and curled it- looking oh so countryesque..... even Jon was in the dream playing with Leta-
but then you tried to feel me up and so I left! hahahahha.....oi the unconscious!

  • 51. Katie-be-bored-at-work said:

Beautiful picture. I love the composition of the photograph - very nice. You have an incredibly serious look on your face, which is a nice change from most photographs. I hate the cheesy grins people usually slap on their face when taking a picture. Do they feel it is necessary to show future generations that they were constantly happy? I hate fake smiles!

  • 52. Mojo said:

    Love the site, Dooce!

  • 53. Ana said:

    You look good Heather.

Wow. I managed to get here today before the posts were up over 200! Shocker. Just wanted to say that I've enjoyed reading about your escapades and the beautiful photos of your wedding and Leta. Keep on truckin' girl!

  • 56. stella said:

Maybe she'll god damned smile, when she's damned ready. chill the fuck out, people who are insistent on others being happy. let me not smile, if I so choose.

And I like your window framing.

  • 61. Susannah said:

Heather your hair is getting SO LONG! This is the best color yet also.

We are defintely in need of an exhibit B with the mobile Leta. Perhaps with carrot?

    Have a good day everyone!

  • 62. Evil Stepmother said:

    Dear Dooce:

I would like to live in your house, provided it comes Scrumptious Bearded Man and the Frog. You can stay, too. I'll need a drinking buddy.

As to How to Annoy You, people are stupid. Motherhood is hard, but not impossible. Anything easy wouldn't leave the triumphs feeling so sweet. And anyone is allowed to complain about how hard it really is, especially mothers with daughters. That territory is fraught with madness.

Poor minkey. If it makes you feel any better, you DO eventually get used to the electric cattle prod up the ass. Don't ask me how I know that.

KimberAnn, you left just as you were getting felt up? That was gonna be the best part of the dream, chickie!

  • 67. Evil Stepmother said:

Also, not a self-portrait, but one of my favorites. So we'll pretend I took that with my go-go gatget arms.

No self portraits here, just deep appreciation for all things Dooce.

Holy Shit...even DOOCE is doing the self-portrait day!

    I feel so with it.

Kimberanne, did she have the 80's puff bangs that are still cool in remote areas of the country that don't know that the can of aqua-net that keeps your hair up like that is eating a big ass hole in our ozone layer?

Whoa, a simple question turned into a rant. Must. Get. More. Coffee.

  • 74. Katie-be-bored-at-work said:

What is with all these insipid people asking for a smile? It reminds me of when I was a little kid and my relatives would say "She's SO cute. Oh, but she'd be SO much cuter if she would just smile once in while." F*@k off Mo-fo's!!! Smiles are terribly overrated!

  • 75. Melanie S. said:

    Dooce if so hot!

I did self portraits! Yeah for me.

  • 76. Dr. Johnny Fever said:

What is it with Utah and turtlenecks? Is that the state-mandated attire?

In other news, has Leta stuck her hand in the toilet yet?

  • 77. August95 said:

You are looking great Heather, but a moving Leta, now that is exciting.

  • 78. Katie-be-bored-at-work said:

Johnny Fever, I think the turtleneck syndrome might have something to do with the sub-zero temperatures in Utah in February. Also, since I am also 5'11" like Ms. Heather, I find turtlenecks to be very flattering to my freakishly long neck. I don't know if she shares that attribute, but I live in sweltering Houston, TX and I still wear turtlenecks until May!

Is that your bedroom? Cause I think maybe the loyal dooce readers should get a glimpse of the Armstrong love nest.

  • 88. mihow said:

Amanda B., Toby Joe and I went back and forth on the whole naked thing. He said "no." I said "yes." Basically, we figured if it was "tasteful" enough, why not allow for it? But that could change. There are only so many manasses and womanboobs I can handle seeing in one day.

Not that I don't love manasses and womanboobs.

  • 89. Bucky Four-Eyes said:

    LadyBug -- I'm pretty sure it's you who's "on the pot." ;)

I must've been channeling Janis when I took that one. Must be why I keep grabbing Jim by the collar and screaming "Down on meeeeeee!"

  • 90. Circus Kelli said:

Katie B: I peeked at your other pictures, too. I like the one of you at Denny's the best. :) Heh, that little Patrick is a cutie patootie!

Heather, I am so glad to hear that you finally talked things out with your father. I had a feeling that your father had to be so incredibly proud of you, despite the fact that you have strayed from his belief system. You are intelligent, beautiful, insightful, and quite possibly the most witty person I have ever come across. All of us - your online friends - can see that. I knew your father had to see it, too. Congratulations on getting the courage to talk to him about all of this. You will be very grateful one day that you did.

Aw, Dooce. I'm glad you and your Pappa had that talk. It's so hard I think, seeing out parents as just people. It's uncomfortable, for me anyway. My Pop wasn't perfect by a loooong shot, but he did a lot better than his parents did. Sniff.

I hope they were tears of release and happiness. Your Dad is right about you. :)

I just realized why a few professors have been lately asking in one of those all so serious tones of concern "how have you been doing lately?" because 3 profs. have caught me bawling over the last couple days *all dooce.com induced bawling...* I just got caught again.

Heather, I am sooooo happy for you AND your father ~ that he clearly sees and recognizes your individual value beyond what he may have had in mind for you, resisting fatherly ideals - and happy for him, that he can communicate how he feels and what he thinks so openly to you (happy for you too, b/c he can do that). Awesome. Just awesome.

  • 139. LadyBug said:

Oh, Amber, you are so brave to post a pregnant picture!

Also, I thought the Wednesday was a reference to the Addams family. I'm like... well, not really, but a little. What is today again? Oh!

Both my Hubby and I have brown eyes. Our first born has the bluest eyes we've ever seen. We couldn't figure out how that happened.

Bio-Mom solved the mystery for us when she told me my Bio-Dad has blue eyes like that.

    Mrs. Strizzay,

Yep, I do looked pissed off, don't I? But the funny thing was, I wasn't. I think my face automatically goes into "camera mode" whenever I get pictures taken of myself. "Camera mode" ranges from 'pissed off' to 'retard'.

Ladybug, light brown? oh. I get ya though. I always thought highly reflective hair was pretty, but you better watch out, as it might blind you on sunny days.

  • 169. Nathan Logan said:

Although this is only partially a self-portrait (it's actually an engagement photo from TWO DAYS AGO!!!!!!), I think it qualifies. After all, I did set the camera on a rock and used the 10-second timer.

I let little Patrick play with stickers, but I lucked out and he doesn't have that insatiable need that I had as a child to stick them on every inanimate object in the house. He did, however, place a Squidward sticker on the remote control. Men of all ages seem to have to stake their claim to the remote, don't they?

  • 171. Circus Kelli said:

Of course I'll never have the opportunity to hear it again and that pains me so deeply I can't tell you. I'll never again get to hear, "Good job, honey." I'll miss that more than I'll miss "I love you honey."

my lovely hubby told me to always look directly in the lens and my pics have come out much better since then, not that you arent beautiful enough. I dont want to critizise(sp????) because I admire you soo much but that was the first thing that sprung into my head about this picture. You are a great mom and have made me look forward to being one also. though i am damn scared of getting off meds and those non pill periods. much more scared than lack of meds. no xanex while pregnant huh? seems like you would need it then most. but never been there so will wait and see and take it as it comes.

To all of you that demand a smiley shot -- I'd much rather see a photo of someone just being themselves that plastering on a fake smile in some knee-jerk 'say CHEESE' response to a camera.

Dooce has striking features and doesn't need a smile to make it fabulous.

  • 233. mg2 said:

That's so great, Heather, what your dad said to you. After many trying times and after being what my parents never failed to point out was a huge dissapointment, I had taken the attitude that I simply didn't care. Then recently I had a similar experience with my mother that you had with your father and when she told me she was proud of me it was once of the greatest, most emotional feelings. And such a releif!! I'm really happy for you that you and your father came to this new understanding!!

Okay, that's all bullshit. Girls did not beat me up and steal my boyfriends in high school because I DID NOT have any boyfriends in high school. All my male friends were, well, not innarested in someone with girl parts, know whut I mean?
