This kid better get used to hand-me-downs

That sound you heard was one very delighted almost five-year-old:

The upside? I will never have to grapple with the decision of whether or not to circumcise another human being. Downside... the possibility of three women in one house menstruating simultaneously.

Jon is so outnumbered. And we both could not be more thrilled.

I got to name my youngest sister when I was 14. I wonder if she realizes she was named for a character on my favorite show at the time, Dark Shadows...well specifically for the actress who played Josette, Katherine Leigh Scott.

Congratulations on the girly parts! I have two boys so I've never seen those on an ultrasound before. I do have experience with hand-me-downs though- LOVE them. It's like shopping for free in your own garage- it's the best!

And for anyone who is grappling with the circumcision dilemma, please don't! We would never cut a girl's parts, we *should* never cut a boy's. Baby boys and girls are all born perfect, with everything they need and nothing they don't. :)

Oh how exciting! I was just so sure it was a boy, should have known by the morning sickness. My girls made me sick, my boy was a breeze, at least in the womb. I too had issues with trying to decide to circumcise..in the end I didn't decide, I just told the doctor I hadn't decided and after the first week it's too late to do it. I am pretty ok with the end result.

Not even born and she is already "exposed!" Aurora is an awesome name...It is what I would like to name my daughter, if I have one...don't steal it lady! People will think I did it because of you! Why? Because I am such a big fan! Congrats! I am one of two female siblings...and wow, it has not been a walk in the park and still isn't. However, we are either pretty different, or too much alike, but I still can't really tell which. How long has this fighting been going on? Oh, about 20 years. That is how old my sister is, and I am 28. Perhaps the large difference in age could account for whatever it is that fuels out constant feuding, but I think has to do with the fact that she constantly takes things without asking...stealing, oh, the stealing. Watch out Leta. And then there is the exceptional selfishness. However, a lot of this has to do with the mistakes that occurred in our rearing. And I am almost positive (there are no guarantees, except of course death) that you two will do a lot better. A lot. You are very thoughtful, and for some reason I think that will make a world of difference.

Congrats! Just wait, now you have to deal with people asking, aren't you going to try one more time for a boy? I am 8 months pregnant with my second son and as soon as we found out it was another boy everyone constantly asked about me having a third child to "try for a girl". I was like, hey, I am still pregnant with #2, thanks, and I'm just fine with 2 boys and I'm done, no more babies for me! I must say I got pretty pissed off when I got asked that and ended up going off on some people, but hey, I am pregnant and hormonal.

Now I'm definitely coming to your Denver book signing. I'm blaming this 100% on you! ;P

Congrats on the girl! I have two boys so far -- would love a girl. Maybe we could swap out if it doesn't work out that way for me?

And for the record, you had to be having another girl. I would say at least 80% of people I know right now that are PG are having a boy. My cousin's wife just found out they are having a boy. We'll have four boys in the youngest generation after June...not a vagina among them!

I knew it! I'm so good at this guessing the sex of the baby game. As a mother of 3 girls ages 4 years, 22 mo and 6 mo let me tell you how petrified of the teen years I am. Please promise me you'll continue this website for the next 15 years so I have somewhere to go to commiserate. Also here are my girl's names. Feel free to use any of them. They are uncommon names for new babies today, but names you've heard of before and, I think, very pretty, much like your daughter's name. You have to remember naming the second one is harder since it has to go with the first one. Anyway our oldest is Sonya, Lana is the middle (good if you want to start a trend with "L" being the first initial in your kids) and Georgia is the baby. Good luck with the name search! It was always the hardest part of my pregnancy! Congrats and long live Disney Princesses! I know I'll be knee deep in them for at least the next 7 years, as I'm sure you will too.:)

My wife's doctor confirmed on an early ultrasound that that our child was a girl. She could even see the ovaries. "Incredible", I thought, "That's modern technology for you". Then months later, just as our child was being delivered - a c-section was required, so I had to sit behind a curtain by my wife's head - the surgeon said "what a great looking boy". I was certain that due to the circumstances my ears were failing me. After a few seconds, the surgeon lifted the baby forward to us and the kid peed on me with something girls are not supposed to have between their legs, at least not for many years...

I've heard since that when a girl is "confirmed" with an ultrasound, errors do occur. Perhaps you should buy some sex neutral baby clothes?

Now what to do with with my son's dresses...

You could REALLY freak her out by telling her that it's not 100-percent certain that the baby's a girl until he/she is born. Just a word of warning, your girls may not be the best of friends growing up. My sister and I were 5 years apart and it made it kind of difficult to be friends when we were little because we were never really at the same stage -plus, she was a little brat :). There were some legendary fights, but we did love each other deep down(deep, deep, deep down). The good news, now at 21 and 26 we are best friends. Once I moved out of the house we became closer immediately. I've decided that some people are just not meant to live together.

With out little niffler, she kept shoving the cord between her legs every time the doctor tried to take a peek, little brat. I told her, I understand the cord is your friend, your only toy, but we do not wrap umbilical cords around our necks in this house. What did she do? Wrapped the damned thing around her neck TWICE. Thankfully I had a cord that when extended fully could stretch from approximately Michigan to East Texas...so it was no trouble to slip the little loops off her neck, but I still grounded the booger.

    Kids gotta learn!! Start early!!

I know "lol" gets tossed around lightly these days, but I actually did "laugh out loud" at that line. But seriously, most women aren't that bad... except my sister for some reason. She stopped by my place for about 5 minutes the other night and I could tell immediately what time of month it was by what a nutcase she was. Luckily I didn't call her on it, because she REALLY hates that (especially because I'm always right).

At any rate, congrats on the kid! My 2 little nieces and nephew (my brother's kids, ages 6, 4, and 1) are one of the most important things in my life, and they aren't even "mine"!

    Welcome future Princess Aurora!!!! Whoo-hooo!!!!

If the lack of sunlight gets to be too much, you might be ok taking zoloft during your pregnancy. My shrink decided it was better to keep me on my OCD/Depression meds (i.e., zoloft) and have me be a calm pregnant woman with an extra-calm fetus, rather than taking me off and having an unmedicated fetus but a psycho pregnant woman.

    My husband agreed. ;)

It helped ALOT. Especially when family members had some, uhm, unintended drama that I got pulled into... with me waddling all the way.

'Course, coming to Southern California sounds like a really good solution, too. :) And hey, with the economy, housing prices over here are PLUMMETING. You could move here instead of just visiting.

And we don't have snow. Except on rare occasions in the mountains. And if you pick the right area of Southern California, you get ocean and you can still avoid smog. :) Although, in some beach communities, you might have alot of fog to deal with. I live in an area where the onset of summer is accompanied with what we call "June Gloom", lol.

And you do have to be willing to deal with earthquakes, mudslides, some flooding, and fire season. [With possible loss of property, or having to avoid smoke inhalation.]

    But other than that...

Hey, congratulations! I have one of each and the girl is DEFINITELY easier, at least for now. I expect it to change when she turns 13.

And I love the name Aurora. They also called her Briar Rose, or Rose in the movie. Rose is my name and it's also a good one!
